The Importance of Mental Health in Entrepreneurship

It is World Mental Health Day, and the theme is Mental Health in the Workplace. We work closely with entrepreneurs, and their mental health and wellbeing is a top priority.

Why is mental health important in entrepreneurship?

Maintaining good mental health is crucial in entrepreneurship for various reasons. It directly impacts decision-making and problem-solving abilities, enabling clearer thinking and creative problem-solving under pressure. A healthy mental state helps build resilience, manage stress, and prevent burnout, which are common in the unpredictable and demanding entrepreneurial journey.

Mental health affects leadership skills and team dynamics, shaping the work culture and overall productivity. It is essential for maintaining a work-life balance, preventing personal relationships and health from suffering due to overwork.

Mental well-being drives sustained motivation and vision, crucial for long-term success. By prioritizing mental health, entrepreneurs can improve their performance, sustain their ventures, and lead fulfilling lives.

How do we do that at Oribi?

We have 1 on 1 sessions with each of our entrepreneurs and unplanned talk therapy to find out how they are doing, where they are in their journey, and if they need any type of support. This creates the space for them to talk about their struggles and successes in the journey.

We always celebrate their wins, no matter how big or small. This builds their confidence and belief in themselves. Listen to what they do and don’t say; there is always an underlying message in the things people say and what they don’t vocalize.

Being patient, supportive, and encouraging, and also giving them the tools and strategies needed to manage their anxiety and burnout. The mindset of the entrepreneur plays a big role in their journey, so we must make sure they have a positive mindset and give them the skills to thrive while also making sure they stay grounded.

Focusing on the mental health of our entrepreneurs is always important.
