WHO IS ORIBI?
Oribi is a South African non-profit, impact incubator. We focus on supporting enterprises with social or environmental impact. Since its creation in Cape Town in 2018, the incubator has supported more than 75 projects on themes related to food innovation, food security, tourism and sustainable development goals. We oversee the crossover between formal and informal markets as the next great frontier toward an African economic revolution. Our goal is to connect business opportunities between all actors of the ecosystem around values of inclusion, social and environmental impact. Oribi is part of the international network of incubators PULSE within GROUPE SOS, present on all continents and strong from more than 35 years of experience in the implementation of activities with a high social impact and economic sustainability.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
A passionate, creative and autonomous Development and Fundraising Officer to support the strategic development and maintenance of fundraising efforts at Oribi and will be responsible for designing, implementing, evaluating, and refining the organisation's development activities. The ideal candidate will have the ability to personally identify, cultivate, solicit, and submit well-written proposals for grants and income generation partnerships, in accordance with performance targets set in collaboration with management. They will also play a key role in regulating and preparing all relevant documentation and ensuring that our processes and operations meet funding agreements.
Ultimately, the chosen candidate will have the opportunity to monitor and develop a diverse portfolio of partners, grant applications, and projects in South Africa and internationally. This role will involve close collaboration with the local incubation team and our headquarters in Paris, fostering a global perspective. Over the course of two years, this person is expected to take on a leadership role within our development team and contribute to the overall grants and fundraising strategy for our social enterprise. Drawing upon their expertise, they will develop and implement plans to ensure the achievement of annual financial targets, employing inclusive and diverse approaches.
WHAT ARE THE JOB'S MISSIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financing Strategy and Implementation:
● Set departmental goals and objectives, monitor progress, and ensure timely and quality deliverables.
● Formalization and implementation of active opportunities related to financial
partnerships and donors in line with existing projects (private, public and international cooperation).
● Write proposals (technical and financial) in close cooperation with the CEO and managers
● Build, develop and maintain relationships with existing and potential funders, partners, industry professionals, NPOs and public authorities (both at national and international levels)
● Ensure collaboration and active participation in sourcing and developing both local and international opportunities in link with Paris headquarters, and participate in monthly development meetings hosted online
● Ability to reflect, plan and implement BBBEE Act income generation strategies for incubator and incubees.
New Development Opportunities:
● Coordinate reflection on Oribi’s offering and its development, in liaison with the team.
● Engage with program participants, beneficiaries, and community members to ensure their voices and needs are incorporated into program design and development.
● Co-construct the development strategy roadmap and ensure its implementation.
● Work in particular to diversify the incubators' business model and develop a range of services.
● Coordinate prospecting and monitoring of public and private RFPs /CFAs. Manage negotiations, monitoring of agreements and reviews.
● Coordinate the drafting of responses to RFPs or RFQs with the Operations and Admin-fin teams, in accordance with existing procedures.
● Actively contribute to the search for funding (with a public or private focus to be defined according to profiles) by designing and producing proposals and strategic goal of diversifying Oribi’s income sources.
Developing strategic partnerships
● Develop meaningful relationships with ecosystem stakeholders to pull in business.
● Regular presence and representation of Oribi in the ecosystem (roundtables, events, networking events, etc.)
● Organize partnership events and promote the partner community.
● Monitor developments in the sector and innovations.
● In partnership with Oribi CEO, and Finance-Admin Lead perform analysis of the entrepreneurial support ecosystem and SA social economy, Identify key opportunities to extend Oribi work to external ecosystem, and new business models for income generating opportunities (alumni offering, impact funding, research reports, conferences, roundtables, webinars, events, etc.)
● Writing, submitting and uploading press releases /Establishing good relationships with media.
● Coming up with ingenious ways to raise awareness and implementing a variety of marketing strategies according to projects and global strategy.
Admin & Reporting
● Maintain and upgrade a partnership follow-up dashboard and monitoring tool.
● Ensure methodological follow-up and maintenance of the database (donors,
opportunities, negotiation status, etc.)
● Develop monthly and quarterly reports to ensure positive evolution and strategy adjustment.
● Ensure coordination between the teams (program leads, admin and finance, etc.) to guarantee the completion of reports expected by donors on already existing funding.
● Ensure archiving of all the working documents (reporting, proposal, agreements, etc.)
WHAT ARE THE COMPETENCIES REQUIRED?
● Degree in a related field (e.g., non-profit management, public administration, social innovation) is preferred.
● Or proven work experience and portfolio of results in program development, grants acquisition of at least 3 years or similar role – performance report, peer recommendation over experience will be highly considered.
● Strong knowledge of program development methodologies, grant writing, and grant management process.
● Excellent team worker, with the ability to inspire and motivate team to achieve quality results based on funding contracts.
● Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
● Strong strategic abilities, rigorous planner and executor with a strong sense of synthesis.
● Design thinker with the ability to generate actionable income generating models.
● Attention to detail, critical thinker and problem solver with high entrepreneurial drive.
● Ability to work well with diverse, cross functional teams.
● Deep connection and understanding of inclusive economies; local and international funding landscape and the South African context (particularly township and rural places).
TERMS & CONDITIONS
Remote work / hybrid available (min 2 days physical in Cape Town)
Salary package: R20 000 – 25,000/ Month (Depending on experience)
24 days of annual leave (including business close in December)
